Nutrient Dense Pregnancy Smoothie

Ingredients


Preparation

Step 1 Base Ingredients:


Base ingredients are the ingredients you must always add to your smoothie. These are great sources of omega 3s and other vitamins and help with hydrating the body. When available, try to use organic products

  • 1/2 Cucumber

  • 3 ribs of celery

  • 1/2 inch turmeric

  • 1/4 cup of walnuts

  • 1 teaspoon flaxseeds (milled or ground)

  • 1 teaspoon of unrefined Virgin Coconut oil (cold pressed)

  • Plain water or coconut water



Step 2 Dark Leafy Greens:


Add some dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale, depending how your taste buds are treating you. If you are up for it, add both.

  • 1 handful of spinach

  • 4 kale leaves



Step 3 Fruit for flavor:


Pick 2 fruits of your choice, maximum 3 to add to your smoothie as we have to keep blood sugar levels down. Some great options that also help with constipation and energy:

  • 1 Kiwi

  • 1/4 cup of pineapple

  • 1/3 of berries

  • 1/4 cup of mangoes

  • 1/2 green apple


Step 4 Blending:


Add all your ingredients in the blender, add about 1/2 cup of water or coconut water to start blending. Little by little add more water until everything is fully blended to the desired consistency. You can drink it through out the day, and you can even make some popsicles if you are craving something cold. Enjoy!



This was my go to drink during pregnancy on a daily basis. It was a great way to get some fiber in my body to maintain a regular bowl movement throughout the 9 months.

  • Dark Leafy greens are a good source of iron and folate

  • Cucumbers help reduce sodium levels in the body, and can help with hydration

  • Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids which help with your baby's brain development

  • Flaxseed meal, just like walnut, contains omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains soluble fiber needed to keep an acceptable level of bowel movement

  • Coconut oil helps relieve constipation during pregnancy acting as a natural laxative. It also helps strengthen the mother's immune system due to its anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.
